Nick Cummings is the Director of Advanced Development for Civil Space at SpaceX, where he leads the creation of next-generation launch, in-space, and interplanetary capabilities for civil and national security customers, including NASA and the U.S. Space Force.
Before joining SpaceX in 2019, Mr. Cummings served as Staff Director for the Space and Science Subcommittee of the U.S. Senate Commerce Committee under Senator Bill Nelson. In this role, he was instrumental in shaping landmark space and science legislation, including the first major NASA reauthorization in seven years and significant updates to U.S. commercial space policy.
Earlier in his career, Mr. Cummings worked at NASA’s Kennedy Space Center, where he contributed to Shuttle payload integration, International Space Station processing, and future exploration operations and infrastructure. He holds an M.S. in Industrial Engineering from the University of Central Florida and a B.S. in Aerospace Engineering from Virginia Tech.
